Babysitting Duties

26 Jul

Well I got my first real babysitting duties as an Uncle. It was a lot of fun and Angus spent most of the afternoon busy showing me his extremely large collection of toys. Although as with most children it is some of the most simple toys that are their favourites.

Later in the afternoon we sneaked down to the park once his grandparents arrived. Dad was able to watch him playing on the playground equipment while I tried to get some photos. Here are the picks from the outing;

Hamlin Pool – Stromatolites

25 Jun

This is my favourite shot so far. It is at Hamlin Pool where the world famous stromatolites are located. I’d never heard of them before and didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The stromatolites can only be viewed from the boardwalk, so I didn’t get the shot I had planned for. Hamlin Pool is also a shell quarry where large blocks are but to make houses. We ate dinner at the Old Pearler Restaurant in Denham which was built from these blocks before the quarry was closed for historical preservation.

Denham Boats

25 Jun

Denham is mainly a fishing town, famous for charter trips for keen fisherman. As such the number of boats in the bay is quite high. Here are a few boats I photographed.

Shark Bay – Denham, WA

25 Jun

Spent most of the week up in the Western most town in Australia, Denham. It is the main town in Shark Bay and part of the World Heritage national park. There is a fair bit to see and do, much more than I expected. Above all the almost absolute quiet is a nice escape from city life. While the aim was to relax, we did get to see some sites, and I even got up (well Seona got me out of bed reluctantly) at 5:30am to drive 50km to Shell Beach one morning to be there in time for sunrise.

Here are some of the photos I’ve post processed so far;

Another Journey Begins

13 Jun

Yesterday saw two of my best friends get married. Long over due many would say, but it was an absolutely beautiful wedding. And as the groom said in his speech his approach to everything is methodical and meticulous. So it was understandable that every aspect was perfect including the weather despite being winter.

The photographer, Julia, set the shot up. I just took this one and post processed it in Lightroom then Photoshop to get the colour/black and white combination.

I will post more photos once I process them.

Young Friendships

08 Jun

This is a photo of Angus and friend. Gus has only recently begun walking so Sophie offered some help to get through the difficult soft sand.

Perfect Perth Winter

07 Jun

As usual we don’t have too much bad weather in Perth. It is now officially winter and it was a lovely 20+ degree day again. Sun was out and wind was light and fresh, can’t beat it really.
Seeing it was such a nice day, it was a great day for photos. I managed to do three shoots on the Monday of the long weekend. These are the ones from the casual shoot of the day, and once again my nephew Angus was the ‘victim’.

All shots taken with a Canon 5DmkII with a Canon 70-200mm f.28L IS lens. They were desaturated when post processed for a different effect from me. It was inspired by a wonderful photo Kheng produced at a wedding in Jan this year.

Once again I have a B&W versus Colour dilemma.

Old Stuff

03 Jun

Still not able to get much personal photography done at the moment. Things are fairly busy this time of the year. I am happy to say my parents are now all tucked into their new home, and the netball season is nearly over. As I’ve not shot anything of interest lately, I thought I would post an old mock up of a poster I did for a mate. It was a shot taken at a wedding from earlier this year. I added his favourite bourbon logo and turned it into a poster. He loves it, and that was the main aim of the piece. It really has to be seen big to work though I think. The composition is not so good when seen as a thumbnail.

Mother’s Day

10 May

Yesterday being Mother’s Day meant the family caught up for lunch. It was a good change to get some photos of my nephew dressed up in his Sunday Best.

Riding the Lightning

23 Mar

It was late, we’d been at a frustrating portrait shoot where the models pushed my patience. Coupled with that the shoot was outdoors and there was a storm pushing in from the north. For those of you who experienced the worst of yesterday’s hail storm would know why I wasn’t keen to hang around. Anyway, as I drove home I was mesmerised by the lightning in the eastern skies. The strikes were so consistent and angry, I could not go straight home without showing some respect to mother nature.
